Malabar Coast

The Story

A coastline that
shaped the world.

For millennia, the Malabar Coast drew the greatest civilisations on earth. They came for spices. They left with something more.

  1. 1st Century AD

    Roman Empire

Roman merchants sailed the monsoon winds to trade gold for pepper. Pliny the Elder lamented that Rome was losing its fortune to India's coast.

  2. 8th – 15th Century

    Arab Traders

Arab merchants established Kozhikode as the greatest port in the Indian Ocean. They called it the City of Spices, and it was.

  3. Ming Dynasty

    Chinese Expeditions

Admiral Zheng He's treasure fleet made seven voyages to Kerala's shores, loading spices that would transform Chinese cuisine forever.

  4. 15th Century

    Portuguese Arrival

Vasco da Gama rounded the Cape of Good Hope and landed at Calicut in 1498, opening the sea route that reshaped global trade.

  5. Today

    Pepper Coast

We continue that journey. Small-batch blends from the same coastline, for homes across Europe that value the extraordinary.
